Washtenaw Community Orchestra Chorus is an all-volunteer choral music organization specializing in collaboration with local community orchestras. For the past two years WCOC has worked successfully with the Dexter Community Orchestra (dextercommunityorchestra.org) to present music centered around the Christmas season.

In 2009 we presented the Choral Fantasy by Beethoven, a precursor to his Ninth Symphony, and Christmas Day by Gustav Holst. The following year, 2010, we performed the exciting composition Hodie by Rafe Vaughan-Williams. This year also saw the advent of DCO's new Music Director, Dr. Anthony Elliott. Recordings we made of some of this music will appear on this website in the near future.

This Christmas of 2011 will see a rendition of the ever-popular short oratorio by the Baroque composer Antonio Vivaldi, his Gloria. After some compositions for orchestra alone, the chorus, soloists and orchestra will perform holiday pieces composed or arranged by Alun Hoddinott and John Rutter. The whole will be presented in the new and spacious Center for the Performing Arts in Dexter High School, located at 2200 N. Parker Rd. in Dexter, Michigan.

WCOC works from a base of sixty singers drawn from all over Washtenaw County, many of whom have been or remain active in community choruses and church choirs. They run the spectrum of jobs, ages, genders and walks of life, but are united by their love of singing classical music and the fellowship they have together.

We are always seeking new members to sing with us in any particular year, so if you are looking for some musical excitement - or perhaps haven't been singing for a while and wish to! - go to the "Rehearsal & Concerts" page and study the rehearsal schedule, then if this seems agreeable, to the "Contact Us" page where you can sign up to be with us. No audition is necessary although we do charge a $15.00 fee to cover our costs.
